What's happening in this week's studio: more hand painted art cards.

As 2023 winds down, new projects are happening in the studio, with an eye toward 2024. My studio art sale continues through 2023!

I talked about these new hand painted cards I’ve been making in last week’s newsletter. Well, this week I made more! My husband and I worked together on a batch of holiday cards we sent out to family and some friends. Sadly, most of them left our doorstep with nary a photo taken. Oops.

BUT, this week I made two sets of hand painted cards destined as gifts, and here’s a photo of one of those sets. Also a video below:

I love making these cards. What really works for me is how fun, easy, and low pressure they are to do. I’m planning to offer sets of these for sale on my art website in 2024. Look for news to come in a future newsletter.

Works in progress now in the studio

First coat of paint and taped edges on these wood panels destined to become heart paintings.

Above is the stack of taped and painted 6” x 6” panels, after their first coat of paint. Below is how they look today as I’m starting to layer color and find each one’s voice. I will add many more layers of texture and color to each as they develop. I’m already really enjoying the purple one in the top right corner, also that super textured one with turquoise and pink.

The way that I paint abstracts is a multi layered discovery of each piece. Painting my paper book marks and cards has been a nice break from the multi layered stuff I usually create. Something’s brewing with these new panels, a new series possibly? Just the fact that I’m finally painting on wood panels is enough for me, I’ve been wanting to do this for ages.

These are all going to be hand painted heart paintings on wood, available for sale in January 2024. I will be writing more about them again soon, and will also share photos of their progress as they are painted.

Works in progress: these will look very different after a few more layers of texture, lines, and color.
