New 2024 paintings: The Hearts of Self Love
Practicing the art of self love is a big theme for me in 2024, and this new batch of heart paintings is one of the ways I’m practicing this art.
As 2024 is beginning, I’m painting a lot. This is a happy thing for me, and feels great. All of the work I’ve done over the past couple of years, reconnecting with my art, moving into a place that had space for art making - is paying off now. Equally important is the work I’ve done giving myself permission to simply be, and make what I felt like making. The upshot of this is that I’ve got a bunch of art journals now, filled with experiments and paintings I want to translate onto larger surfaces I can show.
Here’s a few I love and keep returning to, with a dream of painting them one day. (Kris, just do it!)
Many years ago, I made a lot of heart paintings.
So many, I still hear from people who own them, and love them. Would you believe that I didn’t keep a single one of those heart paintings for myself?
My own personal theme for the year 2024 is Self Love, and so I needed to paint hearts again. This time, I promised myself I’d keep one, at least one! for me. In the meantime, I’m creating them and listing them in my online shop, and also in my Fine Art America shop. I’ll post all links below, but here’s more of the new pieces first!

The 'Emotional Heart' is a happy heart, a bubbly reminder to us all that a heart can be brimming over with joy, love, and happiness. The more we allow ourselves to feel our deepest lovely feelings, the more we have available for ourselves. An emotional heart has permission to feel whatever it is feeling, when it feels it.
‘Self Love Heart’ is the first of the new heart paintings I completed in 2024. To me the ‘Self Love Heart’ is a reminder that self love is a really good habit to have and work on. Practicing the art of self love is a big theme for me in 2024, and this new batch of heart paintings is one of the ways I’m practicing this art.
Each of these heart paintings has metallic gold sides, and arrives ready to hang, no framing needed.
There are 9 more heart paintings in progress right now, hopefully to all be completed by mid January. These are all the same size, 6” x 6” on cradled wood. I want to create larger pieces again too, and some of those are in the works, if you count ‘in my head’ as being in the works. Shop all heart paintings in my shop.

Here’s the story of the ‘Circle Grid’:
The Circle Grid started off with the best of intentions, trying to keep itself all in a nice neat row. That was the idea, anyway, but then magenta and purple came along, throwing all those good intentions out the window. And those younger circles didn't want to stay nice and round, what is it with them? Plus that one corner insisted on remaining true to its own nature and wanted nothing to do with the rest of them. Circle Grid took a big deep sigh and decided enough was enough.
