The Flower Party has new blooms.
'Ode To An Irish Flower' and 'The Flower's Story' have been released.
I’ve been working on more pieces for the ‘Flower Party’ series, and just finished these two today - hooray!
I’m finding it interesting to work on two or more pieces at once, in similar colors. Layering, glazing, and finding new ways to combine colors are some of the ways I’m having fun with my flowers this summer.
As I was completing these two paintings, I texted images of them to my sisters and niece in our text chain. We have an ongoing communication that is all about sharing photos of our lives and creations with each other, even though we can’t be together in person for long periods of time due to distance. One sister remarked “that’s your flower garden!”. She knows I can’t wait to have my garden growing outside in my yard. Next spring and summer there will be live things blooming out there, so apparently I decided to grow a garden on paper and canvas this summer instead.
That thought made me very happy and also grateful to have painting in my life again. Though I have never regretted not painting for almost 10 years, I am truly happy to be doing so in my life now.
Having a dedicated studio makes it much easier and simpler to paint more often.
Because I have my supplies available at hand, I’m able to work on anything I like at a moment’s notice. Fifteen minutes is all I need to paint something that inspires me and feels like I found a new inspiration in my art space today.
My paint journals are books filled with blank heavy paper for water media, and I love them. Here’s a few recent pages from those journals.
I find the paint journals, and experimenting in general, so freeing for me. These pieces are literally all about play. The biggest challenge for me as a painter is allowing myself to loosen up when it comes time to work on paper or canvas, on a piece I want to complete and show.
It’s all part of the journey I’m on as an artist - learning how to allow myself to be as free on canvas as I am in my paint journal.
