When it’s time to let go of stuff and energy
As spring deepens, I’m finding myself more inspired than ever to clear out what’s no longer serving me and my growth.
As an artist, I do tend to acquire things (I might need it in an artwork!), but I don’t have unlimited space or storage, and I hate clutter. So I’ve learned the art of letting go of what actually isn’t working right here and now. I don’t have the space to be the packrat I was in days of yore.

I give a lot of credit for being able to do this to having moved long distances twice since 2021. My husband and I pared down and pared down, especially on our last move to Atlanta from Portland OR. I was just starting to collect art supplies again and those all made it here, but I got rid of a lot of fabric and just stuff that I no longer think of ever and do not miss, except for that amazing floor length mirror we bought in Portland. But no matter, items can be replaced.

Creating and destroying is an important part of daily life. If we don’t destroy, ie; let go of something, we may not have the space for the new we’re trying to build or receive. Think of a paper shredder and how satisfying it is to shred those old documents. As a gardener, I know I have to thin out the seedlings or none of them will have space to grow. It’s healing to clean the house, at least I find it so, because there’s more space once it’s cleared out.
Letting go of the old creates space for the new to be dreamed into being.

As I’m writing this I’m enjoying the irony of it being Taurus season (my natal moon) because Taurus likes to hold on more than anyone. But this is also a new season for us collectively on earth together. With all of what is currently taking place in the US, and all of the people showing up, waking up, and seeing in a new way, what is valued is what’s getting updated.

We are individually and collectively shaking up and releasing old worn out and not so fun energies, concepts, and unconscious agreements about how we live together on earth. We are digging deeper, asking more clear pointed questions about the assumptions we were raised to believe without questioning whether or not they were true.
Artists do this work very well. We are always looking at and reflecting the world back again. Observation and deep listening are important. A relationship grows because the people involved take time to see and listen to each other, and dig deeper within themselves to do this. We have to be willing to see others as they are, and sometimes this is hard to do.

Sometimes the letting go we are doing is to look within ourselves and do the work needed to let go of our own wounds and victimhood. That is rewarding work for any of us, because we all have wounds.
Letting go can also mean we choose to walk away from toxic people, situations, and ways of communicating. I see that happening now as an artist, healer, writer, and human being.
What do we get to have for ourselves when we choose to become conscious of and let go of the old energies that no longer work? What can we create when we let go of what isn’t working anymore?
